FG, ASUP meet to avert strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics will today meet in Abuja with the federal Government to find a way of averting the imminent strike action proposed by ASUP to commence tomorrow 25th of February, 2015. Part of the demands of the union includes “the Federal Government should, without further delay dissolve the Governing Councils of the Federal polytechnics Oko and Ado Ekiti as they have become burdens rather than solutions to the myriad of problems bedeviling the sector. “That the circular issued by the Ministry of Education suspending the implementation CONTISS 15 Migration be withdrawn with immediate effect as the suspension is ill-timed and counterproductive and will create further tension in the sector. “That Managements and Councils of Polytechnics in Nigeria must desist from interfering in ASUP activities in their Institutions and stop forthwith the intimidation of staff who insists that proper things be done.”

ASUP meets FG, Reps today over strike

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) will, today, meet with the Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau and its Labour counterpart, Saminu Turaki, as well as the House of Representatives Committee on Education. Both ministers and the committee have urgently invited ASUP to the crucial meeting separately to forestall the nationwide strike threatened to embark upon by the polytechnic lecturers, and its likely emerging crisis. ASUP had issued a two-week strike ultimatum which ends tomorrow, and threatened to start strike immediately after the expiration of the ultimatum on Wednesday (tomorrow). The ultimatum ends today. The union, which has called on government to reverse a directive suspending CONTISS 15 in polytechnics, also called for removal of “autocratic” governing councils in the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Anambra State and the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State; and improved funding of polytechnics, amongst other demands.

ASUP: FG gives condition for payment of lecturers’ arrears.

.....He said that with the detailed briefing by the minister, the governing councils would inform staff of their respective polytechnics on the commitment of the Federal Government to pay CONTISS 15 in two installments, adding that the Nigerian polytechnic staff should return to their duty posts so that further progress can be made.

ASUP: FG gives condition for payment of lecturers’ arrears

Both arrears for the Polytechnics and Colleges of Education stand at over N40billion. However, at a previous meeting with ASUP executives, government had asked the union to work out the modalities for settlement of the arrears, which amounted to N20.4billion. ASUP, after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, a week later, rejected the offer insisting that the strike would continue unless government met all the demands made by the union collectively. Wike at Friday’s meeting was quoted to have said: “At our exhaustive meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), we agreed on the payment of the CONTISS 15 in two installments. We have since raised a memo to the President to this effect. I took the risk of committing government because we are deeply worried over the prolonged strike.....

ASUP threatens to shut polytechnics again

Eight months after suspending its industrial action at the instance of the Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has issued a two- week ultimatum to the federal government. ASUP warned the government to implement the tents of the agreement or face yet another protracted strike in the nation’s polytechnics. The union said that the decision of the government to suspend the implementation of CONTISS 15 salary structure was provocative, ill timed and retrogressive. The decision, it added, was a flagrant breach of the trust and character of the agreement that led to the suspension of the strike in July, 2014. National President of the union, Comrade Chibuzor Asomuga, stated these at a news conference in Abuja. He said the strike, expected to resume on Wednesday, was occasioned by failure of government to honour agreements with the union.

A Must Read "Love Letter"

My Dear love, Yesterday, I was passing by your rectangular house in trigonometric lane. There, I saw you with your cute circular face, conical nose and spherical eyes, standing in your triangular garden. Before seeing you, my heart was a null set, but when a vector of magnitude (likeness) from your eyes at a deviation of the radius made a tangent to my heart, it differentiated. My love for you is quadratic equation with real roots, which only you can solve by making good binary relation with me. The cosine of my love for you extends to infinity. I promise that I will not resolve you into partial fractions but if I do so, you can integrate me by applying the limits from zero to infinity. You are as essential to me as an element to a set. The geometry of my life revolves around your acute personality. Yours ever loving, Pythagoras.
